From Silence to Sound: How Descript Helped Me Overcome a Temporary Set Back

Check out our latest podcast that discusses our fascination with AI — Episode 17: Innovative Solutions for the Voiceless: How Descript and AI are Changing Lives

Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes it throws us a curveball that we never saw coming. But the way we respond to those challenges is what truly defines us. Robert Frost famously said, "The only way out is through." We may face obstacles and setbacks, but as I often remind Kelli, "failure is never an option." Instead, let's turn those challenges into opportunities and keep goaling forward with purpose and determination.

As a financial advisor, I always stress the importance of having a plan to achieve your financial goals, especially in the face of unexpected challenges. So, taking my own advice, when life threw me a curveball in the form of temporary vocal cord paralysis, I turned to technology to help me continue with my passion for storytelling through our podcast.

In the latest episode of our podcast, Nourish Your Worth, we tell the story of my recent health scare and how technology helped me overcome it. Specifically, we discuss the innovative solutions provided by Descript, a podcast editing software, and ChatGPT, an AI language model.

Descript's overdub feature allowed me to upload 30 minutes of prior recordings to enable the software to learn my voice and seamlessly integrate with an AI version of my OG voice. This feature is handy during my recovery period, allowing me to record new lines of my Minnie-Mouse-sounding audio and seamlessly integrate it. Meanwhile, ChatGPT has enabled us to automate tedious tasks for our small team, giving us more time to focus on growing our business, connecting with our social community, and helping our clients.

As someone who loves music, I'm excited about the possibilities AI and technology bring to the industry. It's not just in podcasting and video production where AI makes a difference. We also see the potential for AI and technology to help recording artists who may temporarily have vocal cord paralysis continue with their passion. Using AI and other innovative solutions, we can create opportunities for those with disabilities or other challenges to pursue their passions. In fact, the thumbnail for this blog post was made using Midjourney, an AI art generator that creates stunning artwork using a combination of user input and machine learning. It's incredible to think about the possibilities that AI and technology are opening for us. Meanwhile, I'll daydream about the possibility of living my dream of being a hip-hop recording artist.

At CoLearning Books, we empower individuals to improve their financial well-being and nourish their self-worth and net worth. Technology can be a powerful tool for achieving all these goals.

I was also recently inspired by the fantastic performance of Rihanna's sign language interpreter at the Super Bowl, Justina Miles. She showcased the power of inclusivity and accessibility, and it's an inspiration to us all. Justina truly shined bright like a diamond up there on one of the big stages in the world! Let's continue celebrating and honoring those who break down barriers and help create a more inclusive world.

We invite you to listen to the latest episode of our podcast, where we share the full story of how technology helped me overcome my vocal cord paralysis. We also encourage you to share your stories of how AI has helped you overcome adversity or provided new opportunities. By coming together and sharing our experiences, we can empower each other and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible. And don't be surprised if you hear an occasional cameo on our podcast from Miss Kitty, Kelli's beloved feline friend who reminds us to meet people where they are and help them nourish their worth - even if it's just with a request for a taste of her favorite treat, sour cream.

Let's be honest, life is short, and we want to make the most of it. As Big Sean once said, "I'm here for a good time, not a long time." But why settle for just one? With the power of technology and the right mindset, we can have it all, a good time and a long time, achieving our goals and living our dreams. So, let's keep it hip, stay true to ourselves, and keep on goaling towards a brighter future. And as we nourish our worth, embrace the power of technology, and break down barriers to create a more inclusive world, let's remember that there's nothing we can't achieve together. The future is bright, and with the right mindset and plan in place, we can achieve anything.

Lastly, I want to send a special shoutout to my tribe, who has been overfilling up my cup during this difficult time. I'm genuinely receiving east and west coast love here in Santa Barbara. I am deeply humbled by the outpouring of love and support, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be vulnerable and share my journey with you all. As Jay-Z once said, "I'm far from being god, but I work god damn hard."
